Why the F became the primary mark

The lynx was not discarded. The identity simply gained a simpler primary signature that works better alongside the interface.

This text is editorial. If this note differs from the current product state, Decisions, Roadmap, and canonical documentation are authoritative.

For a while the lynx carried too much weight in the identity. It works very well as a mascot, illustration, and personality, but that does not mean it needs to be the answer for the favicon, panel, button, lockup, and every tiny space at the same time.

D-107 resolved that by making the stylized F the primary mark and leaving the lynx as the secondary identity. For me, the important part is that both still belong to the same system instead of competing for protagonism.

The current result is in Design. In Lab I kept the path that led there, because preserving a change of direction is more interesting than pretending the identity appeared fully formed on the first try.
